Former Santa Monica Mayor Michael Feinstein provides a historical context for the residents referendum on the Bergamot Transit Village/Hines Development Agreement, which was approved by the Santa Monica City Council on February 4, 2014. Drawing back to the attempt in 1973 by the City Council to tear down the Santa Monica Pier, to efforts to control development along the beach, at the non-aviation land at Santa Monica airport, and in the Civic Center.
